It's always a joy to introduce people to knitting! This class is appropriate for anyone who knows literally nothing about knitting, as well as anyone who "used to knit but can't remember how!" For this 2 hour introduction to the basics of knitting, you will need:
One skein or ball (or package) of cotton yarn, available from Wal-Mart, ACMoore, JoAnn's, Michaels, etc. Look for either "Sugar n' Cream" or "Peaches and Creme" brand, any color, worsted weight (it will say that on the label). I suggest a light or bright color, as it is easier to see the stitches and trust me, you want to see the stitches! You will also need knitting needles. Technically, any kind will do, but I recommend bamboo for beginners for a lot of really good reasons. You'll want either US size 7 (4.5mm) or US size 8 (5mm) straight bamboo or wood needles. Also helpful: scissors, a measuring tape, and a tapestry needle.
The class will be Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9-11am at the Panera Bread, 5070 International Blvd, N. Charleston (near the outlet mall).
Price is $25 per student. Ages 12 and up. Class project is a simple knitted dishcloth.
Deadline extended! Please register by sending me your name and contact info by Thursday, Sept. 25 by 5pm by email at knitoasis at gmail dot com.
